Wednesday Ramblings
If you were around last week, you probably heard some buzz that Google is doing away with Google Reader. For the past several years I, and probably many of you, have used this service to receive updates via RSS from your favorite blogs. Well, after July 1, that will be no more. The good news is, there are great (actually, better) services out there that are providing seamless transitions from Reader!
So I thought today I would bring your attention to those things, as well as highlight lots of other ways you can keep up with the happenings here at Bake Your Day.
RSS Subscription (Life after Google Reader)
Subscribe to Bake Your Day via RSS. You will receive new posts via RSS in your feed reader. Speaking of…
If you have previously subscribed via Google Reader, I would suggest that you go ahead and try out some alternatives. Lindsay of Purr Design (my designer) wrote a great post about Life after Google Reader. I love Lindsay’s list of pros and cons for some alternatives…definitely check it out!
And Ali of Gimme Some Oven wrote How-To posts on switching from Reader to BlogLovin’ and from Reader to Feedly.
I have to be honest – I didn’t like anything about BlogLovin from the minute the page loaded. I can see the pro’s of using their service but couldn’t get a good feel for it. However, I am loving Feedly. Whichever you choose, you will experience a seamless transition and will only have to work through figuring out a new interface. You’ll be amazed at how behind Reader actually was!
Social Media
Facebook
Twitter
Pinterest
Instagram (my favorite!)
Google+ (actually learning to love it!)
StumbleUpon (does anyone still use this one?)
Weekly Email Newsletter
Each week, I send out a weekly newsletter containing all of my new posts from that week. I highlight popular posts, giveaways, etc. Each Friday morning you will receive a newsletter in your inbox!
You can always stay up to date by the social media buttons on the right hand side of the page and feel free to email me with any questions or concerns!
I so agree that I was not a fan of BlogLovin right away. But am also really liking Feedly!! First of all, it kept my folders in tact & it still kept the posts that I had “starred” marked, which BlogLovin did not!
I have been using Feedly and I really like it. Thanks for this post! Hopefully no one will be caught off guard on 7/1!
Great post! Glad to have options come July 1! 🙂
I switched over to Feedly too. Although it looks nicer than google reader, I don’t like the feed. I wish it was more of a list, like Reader.
I can’t decide if I want to use Feedly or Bloglovin. There are things I like and don’t like about both. I’m glad we still have some time to figure it out!
I’m going to miss Reader, but looking forward to Feedly 🙂
I just made the move over to Feedly. It’s OK. I’m the type of person that doesn’t really like change. Ugh. But what can you do, right?
this google reader thing is really rocking everyone’s world! I don’t even want to deal with it right now! yikes!
Ugh I have yet to decide about BlogLovin or Feedly. I’m procrastinating
Thanks for telling us about the other option freely. I have been using bloglovin for about a week not sure if I am a fan so I will have to give this a try.
I went back to Bloglines a week ago. It is most like Google Reader – which ironically I left Bloglines for.
