Wednesday Ramblings

Soooo, I know it’s not Wednesday anymore.  But my days are here and there and everywhere.  Yesterday was filled with conversations with new friends, job interviews, preparing for youth group, leading youth group and then a long conversation with Paul last night.

And by 11:30 pm I just accepted the fact that Wednesday Ramblings would have to come on Thursday this week.  And since I’m not going to be going anywhere today:

I thought we’d just have a random chat today, Thursday, instead of yesterday.  My coffee mug is full and I’m sitting at my desk listening to thundersnow (I didn’t know that was a thing!), watching the snow fall and thinking about these things:

1. Snow. Everyone spent the day yesterday preparing for the storm.  When I woke up at 7 am today, there was not so much as a DROP on the ground.  And then about 8 minutes later, it started.  And it kept coming down.  The first picture up there was taken at 7:45, and then 8:45 and then 9:45 this morning and it doesn’t appear to be stopping anytime soon.  And I don’t have anywhere to go so I’m OK with that.  But I failed to do one thing yesterday and that was to buy bacon.  We have no bacon in the house.  What do do?

2. Working. Paul and I had a long discussion last night about working.  I change my mind every 20 seconds about the subject.  I think I want to work from home, freelancing and blogging but then in another instant I want to find a full time job, and keep the blog a hobby & creative outlet that I truly love.  Discerning this is at the top of my priority – and prayer – list right now.

3. Girl Scout Cookies.  How do they make those things so good?  After yesterday’s cupcakes, I know you all love ’em.  Do you have a favorite recipe?  Have you made homemade GS cookies?

4. Paint.  Have I mentioned that I’m tired of painting?  We painted lots of walls when we moved to our new house.  Just this week Paul finished painting the main bathroom and I finished some cabinets.  We painted our bathroom a light blue color called Smooth Sailing.  I can’t figure out what color to pair with it.  What do you think?  Slate? Light grey?  Brown?  Help me, please?

5. Ok, I said I was sick of painting but I think I want to paint our fridge with chalkboard paint.  Have you done it?  What do you think?  Our fridge is old and doesn’t match the other appliances.

6. Lent.  Do you observe the season of anticipation leading up to Easter?  We do and this year instead of giving something up, I am adding something in.  I’m attempting to create some quiet space in each day to listen for God’s voice.  As I mentioned in #2, I have NO idea what I am supposed to do with my life and I’m on a mission to listen for his will and path.  I am in a small group with some great ladies in our new town and we are reading this book: Discerning the Voice of God and it is wonderful so far.   Just what I needed.  Are you giving anything up/adding anything in/creating some special devotion for this season?

My coffee is empty and Paul has breakfast ready so that’s probably enough rambling for today.  Have a blessed day, my friends!

I can’t imagine getting a snowfall like that. Living in Houston now and before that in Louisiana, we would have a major party if we even saw sleet. Sometimes I wish we lived in an area where we would see such beautiful snow.

I haven’t heard of the book you’re reading, but it seems to be one that would be good to read for Lent. We do observe Lent and I’m not giving up anything either, rather I’m also trying to incorporate quiet time for reflection and reading into my day (it’s incredible how hard that seems to be). Best of luck in discerning your career path, it’s not an easy decision.

That’s alot of snow! And the paint choices, OMG. We’ve been here 6 months and I finally decided on a family room color. I went ahead and got one of those BM fan decks, and I’m sticking with just the historic colors, it narrows it down some, but not enough. Still way too many choices! And painting fridges, we tried it, but with appliance paint, and I hated it. It was cute for about a week, but it wasn’t and couldn’t be absolutely perfect, and it made me cringe every time I looked at it.

I will definitely pray that you find some sort of closure for the job process whether it be finding a job or making the blog your full time job. I totally understand how you feel about painting because I’m seriously over it after 30 minutes. Shaun and I observe lent but we aren’t giving up anything this year. We are doing a daily devotional TOGETHER during the lent season instead of doing one just ourselves.

I LOVE that idea with lent. Adding in daily time with God is such a perfect thing to do, and hopefully keep it going all year long. So inspiring Cassie. I think “slate” would go well with the blue color. I have been loving that lately 🙂 And I know what you mean about whether or not to get a job. I am constantly going back and forth too about whether I should or not, but I think I am better off making the blog my number one priority, especially when I am trying to make it bigger and get paid for it. But definitely something to be in prayer about. It is all for God’s will, and He will lead you down the right path. He always does 🙂

Look at that snow! And I say, paint the fridge. Do it.
I gave up TV for lent in college (I went to a Christian college, Azusa Pacific) and although I had a ton of support, it was SO hard. I did start drawing to fill the hours and realized that I was actually good at it, so it ended up being a great thing.

I think I might go defrost some bacon and have french toast. Love these snowy days! I’m also snapping photos as the snow builds!

Your Wednesday or Thursday ramblings are perfect. I’ll take them any day of the week, in fact! We got a huge dose of snow last night too. I have a love/hate relationship. And girl scout cookies? Now I have to get some! Thank you for sharing!

Hi Cassie…..Wednesday ramblings on Thursday….no problemo! Many times the things I’ve planned for one day get rolled over to the next….that’s just life, I guess.
As far as the book you’re reading in your ladies’ group…..sounds great! I’m actually in a bit of the same place….asking the Lord what I should be putting my hands to and actually, seeking His will and direction about some other things…..things that have been on my heart for a LONG time. I know He hears and delights for us to know His will and His heart! Blessings on you as you seek Him. (I’m gonna have to check out that book…..maybe I can find it at the library??)

I love the idea of a chalkboard fridge! Ive seen it and love it, but we’re currently renting, so I don’t have that option! Let me know what you think if you decide to do it!!

    Kate@Diethood — February 21, 2013 @ 1:59 pm

Thundersnow? Hm! We are experiencing extremely low temps – it’s 13 without the windchill… freezing! But keep the snow, I’m cool with the low temps. 😉
I am in the same position as you – I can’t decide whether I want to make my blog a full time job, or keep it as a hobby and go back out there into the corp world.
Paint the fridge and share a photo! :))
I observe Lent, but we do it a bit differently. We do a Fast for an entire week, and you can only eat raw or steamed veggies, fruits, and water. You can also do it the entire 6 weeks, but that’s just crazy-talk! 😉

Happy thursday ramblings! I’m so jealous of the snow! I’ve been living in LA for over 10 yrs so you could imagine that I’m quite snow-less.

And I totally support the chalkboard paint on the fridge. It’s so cute!

Oh, that snow ain’t stoppin’! If you are getting what we got (and are still getting) you’ve got a lot more headed your way. Btw, I love what you are doing for lent, that’s very intentional. I hope that your decision comes easily and quickly, though I imagine it would be a difficult decision to make. Thinking of you! 🙂

yellow…And navy blue and touches of white. I had my bedroom walls painted that color, the wood work was white and I had sunshine yellow curtains and the bed had a quilt that had the yellow, navy blue, blue like the walls with a background of white…my kids who thought I was just not with it actually thought the room was cool, cook enough my grandson just had me do it for his room except he used navy blue curtains and touches of yellow in his quilt

I love the blue you picked out for your bathroom. I think a light grey would be great paired with it. Good luck deciding what you want to do. I know it is a hard decision but life is a journey and I’m sure you will find the path your are meant to go. 🙂

Cassie, I heard from my family last night in KC and was jealous of the snow storm. Snow days for everyone! I love that the one “emergency” item you forgot was bacon! I’ll be thinking about you with your work decision – good luck finding the right next step.

I’m the same way with work! I freelanced for 5 years and now I’ve been full-time for 1.5. Some days I LOVE it and some days I just want to work for myself again. Just know that the grass is always greener and you just have to work to be happiest at what you have 🙂

Definitely paint the fridge! I have a small chalkboard in my kitchen and a bunch of leftover paint and I’m eyeing my whole house for the best place to slap it on 🙂 Also, slate in the bathroom…or slate and yellow, I love the warm/cool combo! I hope you’re able to figure out the path God is leading you to, great idea for a different approach to Lent.

As exciting as it is to paint, I know how tiring it can get after a while! I say a cool white or slate to go with the blue! And when it comes to Lent, I have always been terrible when it comes to giving up something, I have always liked the idea of doing something better instead. I love how you are preparing for Easter 🙂

Working vs. Blogging from home is a big decision! I sometimes think about how much fun it would be to just blog for a living, but you’re right, then it is no longer a hobby. And then think about the fact that I just worked my booty off for a doctorate and my family would kill me if I didn’t use it, lol! For Lent, I am giving up being lazy. Sounds silly, but I want to get more exercise in and actually get things crossed off my list!

Loving your ramblings here, Cassie. Hopefully God gives you a kick in the heart and head to let you know where He wants you heading with things.

I’ll be looking to see what you decide about the chalkboard paint. I want to do that to one wall in my sons room but haven’t gotten brave enough yet.
