Wednesday Ramblings

Kristen posted her Happiness Report yesterday which mentioned Michael Phelps and his quest to simply “smile more” and how a simple smile has helped him to enjoy and appreciate life a little more each day.

Our daily lives can get us down, there is no doubt about that.  But I find that all that goes wrong can quickly be muted when we seek out happiness.  I love the moments when I truly feel surrounded by beauty, by Grace, by happiness but oftentimes we have to be intentional about finding those – which is easier said than done.

The truth is that there are so many things to smile about.  Maybe only for one minute of the day, or two, or one hour, or two, or maybe try all day to smile for the sake of happiness.  It’s totally refreshing.

I have a whole pinboard titled “Makes Me Smile” and I actually find myself smiling and I scroll though.

I’m taking a break today.  I am stepping back to look at the bigger picture.  I am smiling and I am making sure that I am present, happy and appreciating life.  Here’s what’s making me smile today:

1. We are going to a Fun. concert and I’m way more excited than an adult should be.  But I’m not sorry about it.   Watch Instagram later, I am sure there will be something to share.

2. Proverbs. All of God’s words, in general.

3. 37 things you don’t need to be sorry for. Some are serious, some are funny.  Regardless, I love this list and this website. Love it.

4. Antiquing all weekend with my mom.  Eating crab rangoon with my mom.  Having great chats with my mom.  Just my mom in general.  She’s the best mom.

5. My sweet hubs.  And the vacation to Denver & Colorado Springs that we are taking on September 1.  Yes, I am counting – 23 days.

6. These.  Can’t. Stop. Laughing.

7. Unexpected cheddar.  Just do it.

8.  IFBC with Claire.  Again, counting – 15 days.

9. You, You, You.  You guys – your comments, tweets, emails, and IM’s, they make me happy every single day of my life.

10. Hot air balloons.  (See above.)

What are you smiling about today?

Seriously love this. Happy people aren’t just that way by default, it takes work. Just like fit people don’t just happen to be that way, they work at it.
Just reminding ourselves of the good stuff and why and how to be happy, makes a world of difference in how happy we really are. We have so much more control over it than a lot of people think.
Oh and if my daughter ever posts anything like #4, I will cry huge happy tears of joy. I love having a daughter and I’m sure your mom does too 🙂

Yes, yes, it takes work, diligence and constant reminders. 🙂

Love this, Cassie! What’s making me smile today? This post, for one. And the fact that my husband + I are going to dinner tonight with my in-laws to one of my favorite restaurants. And the fact that I actually *love* spending time with my in-laws — many people aren’t so lucky! =)

    • Cassie replied: — August 8th, 2012 @ 4:43 pm

So true – I love my in-laws but I know people who don’t have a relationship with theirs. Very grateful for that. Enjoy your dinner!

You should go to Mixed! I will be there 😀

    • Cassie replied: — August 8th, 2012 @ 4:51 pm

I would love to but can only swing it if I can find a sponsor…and judging by how hard it’s been to find one for IFBC, I’m not sure if it will be feasible! I’m still looking around though!

It’s so exhausting to be miserable, just out of practicality it makes more sense to smile than to frown.
I am on my yearly visit to see my family. I am grateful that I am able to visit my family, I know that there are those who don’t see their families for years. I have a lot to smile about!

    • Cassie replied: — August 15th, 2012 @ 12:55 pm

You are so right Kari! Smiling is energizing in itself!

I do agree with all the ideas you’ve introduced for your post.
They’re very convincing and will definitely work.
Nonetheless, the posts are too brief for novices.
May you please extend them a bit from subsequent time?
    Thank you for the post.
