Spring 2017

Spring in Missouri seemed to start earlier this year than in years past.  It was 70 degrees some days in January and February and it was BLISSFUL!  We took tons of long walks – we bought a hiking toddler backpack and so far it’s been a hit.  Paul loves carrying it, and Lucy loves sitting up to see the sights.  That is, until she falls asleep.

We had some visitors for a few days when our nephews were on spring break.  We played until we couldn’t play anymore.  Lucy never stops moving these days.

We took our first ever trip to the St. Louis Zoo.  Lucy was semi-impressed.  She liked the elephants and the monkeys (or maybe that was me).  I think that if we took her back today she would be so much more impressed – she is so into animals.  She even says “flamingo” when we pull our her flamingo jammies.

One of her favorite books is “Moo Baa La La La”.  She insists on sleeping with it and knows almost the whole book, word for word.  “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” is another favorite.  Animals!

My favorite Sara made a trip home during her spring break also, and it just so happened to be during our Downtown Dinner Dash which was thumbs up!  Such a fun girls night to sample great local foods and drinks.

We celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary with a sunset-lake-view-seafood dinner that was the perfect date night, topped off with the world’s most amazing gooey butter cake.

Easter was a little cloudy but it didn’t stop us from wearing our spring colors and sandals.  The Easter Bunny brought Lucy a basket filled with fruit snacks, stickers, bubbles (her favorite) and bubble bath.

My mom visited in April and rode the Amtrak to Jefferson City from Kansas City.  Lucy was SO impressed that “Mamaw” rode the train.  She has talked about it ever since and anytime we see a train she thinks Mamaw is going to be on it.

This girl is seriously obsessed with animals.  This horse’s head was as big as her whole body but she had no fear.  Handing her food and petting her nose.  It was the sweetest!

Paddle boat rides at the lake.  Lucy keeps talking about Papaw’s sailboat – she can’t wait to go!

Water baby.

Fort Scott parade with Mamaw.  She loved the tractors and horses and also loved seeing Poppy driving his sheriff’s car.

Around 17 months, Lucy’s vocabulary started exploding, repeating everything we said.  She loves being outside more than almost anything.  Around 18 months, she started saying name, “Susy” or “Sissy” and discovered posession.  She says “mine” and things like Lucy’s chair, Lucy’s milk, Lucy’s blanket, mama’s water, daddy’s glasses.  She says “mama help you” and “I hold you”.  Gives the sweetest hugs and kisses, and then around 20 months, repeated love you – “lub you mama” and “lub you dada”.  Melted.

She loves tomatoes, cheese, crackers, peanut butter, banana bread, fruit snacks, and she begs to take her daily vitamin!  She enjoys rocking in her chair and reading books.

She is working on potty training and doing so great most days.

She is a busy bee every single day and I end most days totally exhausted, but with my heard filled up with her joyful spirit.

Last night we were hanging out after dinner and she stood up and said “car ride, daddy’s van.  I get my shoes.”  She was insistent that we take a car ride, so that we did.  I love communicating with her and I can’t wait to see what this summer holds.

We are heading to Colorado for vacation in July and I cannot wait for her to see the mountains!

Do you have Dear Zoo? If she loves Brown Bear and Moo Ba La La LA, then it’s sure to be a favorite (trust us!)

I cannot help at the fact how adorable Lucy is! I have a little nephew who’s 20 months now and he loves going out and eating banana breads too!
He loves animal books more than anything! Have you read Farmyard Beat to Lucy? My nephew loves it when I read it with a tune! Hope Lucy loves it too! Much love
I’ll be reading future posts from you! XX
