Wednesday Ramblings

(Source)

I really love that quote but my favorite part is the last.  Everyone needs a little silliness, right?  Or quirky as Instagram  calls it.  Speaking of which, yesterday I stepped into the world of the iPhone.  It didn’t even leave my hands to sleep last night.  Kidding.  Although I finally had to put it down when I ran the battery out.  So I’m not big on this app thing…tell me what your favorites are.  I have the basics but I need the unusual ones!

Also silly is an adventure I’m going on tomorrow evening- Our friend Dan (and his wife Jess) hunt deer and big game animals  and they process the animals in their kitchen.  They make steaks, ground meat, sausage, etc.  You know I’m not a big meat eater but I LOVE the idea of processing foods ourselves so that we know what goes in.  I believe in eating natural foods and the less-processed, the better.

Anyway, we are going to join our friends in their home to process a quarter of a deer.  And then we are going to eat said deer for dinner.  This sort of sounds like a joke as I type it out…it’s no joke.  I was quite fascinated by the idea of going through this process so I sort of invited myself thinking that it would be cool to watch.  I think I’ll be doing more than watching but I hope to get some photos to share!  (OK, not so silly but I’m excited for a new experience!)

How do you keep life from being serious all the time?

One last thought today:

Go confidently!  I just loved this…

Photo editing – I normally edit with snapseed to do basic cropping/tuning and then use noir or pictureshow to make cool effects. I think they were both recs from Diane of White on Rice Couple.

General – Sleep cycle is pretty cool and shows you when you’re going through the various stages of sleep. I’ve found 7 words to be a really good game and I also like Cut the rope. I go through phases of using MyFitnessPal to track what I eat and work out calories etc. I also use the Amazon and IMDB apps quite often because they’re both pretty good.

The rest of the ones I have are either pretty general or UK related so unless you’re particularly interested in the status of the London Underground, probably not relevant 😉

Also, I’m so interested to hear how the deer processing goes – I imagine it will be absolutely fascinating and I bet it will taste delicious!

yay for joining the iPhone & instagram club 🙂 it’s fun, isn’t it? i don’t think i could ever go hunt and then process the meat and eat it. i think i’ll let the people who do that do it for me cause the thought of it kind of grosses me out BUT at the same time, it’s kinda cool to “DIY” your meal from beginning to end. have fun 🙂 can’t wait to hear about it! i keep my life from being serious by just laughing. laugh as much as you can and surround your life with amazing, funny people.

    deer processing… have fun, i don’t think i could stomach it 🙂

as for the iphone, ah my new love! i’ve had one since june and i don’t know what i did without it.

pinterest app is good but can be slow.

gasbuddy app is good for find cheap gas prices, and you can report them and try to win a free gas card.

games: hanging with friends & words with friends are fun! i have the free versions, the ads aren’t bad. textropolis (a word game you play alone) is fun too and is challenging.

i use the g-whizz (free version) for google reader…i really like it, and also like their version of gmail.

the esv bible from crossway is also free and really easy to navigate. the goodreads app is good too for jotting down books you want to read on the go.

shazam is fun for finding who sings songs.

i also use the groupon app, the target and michael’s apps for coupons, my husband likes the amazon app & imdb.

fooducate app is good- you can scan the barcode of items at the grocery store and it tells you their rating and suggests healthier alternatives. i don’t buy a lot of processed foods but it can explain what some of the questionable ingredients in cereals are, which i do like to know.

i think that’s about it! i’ve only bought 1 app (teuxdeux) and would suggest to get free versions if possible and then if you really like them and are bothered by ads/want the full version, buy it later. sorry for the novel 🙂

Wow. You read my mind to somehow realize I totally needed this “confidence pick-me-up” today! I like to have dance parties by myself to keep things light in life 🙂 Unrelated, but because this is how my brain works, have I ever mentioned that I’m obsessed with your header image? LOVE it!

Thanks Kelly! I equally love yours too. Glad you liked the quote! 🙂

Congrats on the iPhone! I won $250 in a recipe contest a few months ago, and I’m pretty sure that the ink wasn’t even dry on the check before I raced to the AT&T store to buy the 4S!
I’m more of a free app kinda girl, here are my favs:
Epicurious, pinterest, Foodgawker, Wikipedia (faster than google), Yelp, Punchfork, and Lose It.
Have fun! Oh, and please do a deer meat post. Can’t even imagine where I would start with deer meat!

Ooh, the deer adventure sounds so fun! I have a quote stuck on my toaster that says “Take time every day to do something silly”, I love being reminded of it! It’s pretty easy with kids, but I also like to surprise my hubby with a log roll to the other side of the bed over top of him just when he’s falling asleep or a sprinkle with the water in the bottom of my glass…keeps him on his toes and always makes him (and me) laugh 🙂

So glad to see you on Instagram now, its addicting isn’t it? Another addicting app is Pinterest. I find myself falling asleep at night while scrolling through that app, ha! Some apps I like on my iphone is Kindle, Nook, Pandora, QRReader, Amazon, Foodgawker, Skype, RedLaser, Flashight and Skyview. Can’t wait to hear how your dinner went. That fabulous that your friends process their own meat. Have fun!

Great post! I try to be as silly as possible 🙂 Processing a quarter deer with your friends sounds like an incredible opportunity. Something all of us meat eaters should do at one point or another. And yay for your new iPhone! I don’t have one, but I do have an iPad and an iPod touch, which is basically an iPhone without the phone. I can’t recommend Mark Bittman’s How to Cook Everything app enough – love love love it! Have made many recipes from it, every one a success.

Some days seem made for seriousness, but you’re right, it’s important to act silly, and I do my regular share at the gym;)

I love the quotes! The deer…would totally make me squeamish. You are braver than me, girl! I have an iPod Touch (and a seriously no frills cell phone) but download all the apps to the Touch. I love the Bible app because I always manage to forget my Bible when we’re rushing off to church and the TeuxDeux app because I have a serious list making problem 🙂 Enjoy the iPhone!

Such beautiful quotes Cassie! And have fun with your new i phone! You are a brave woman to go through the whole deer processing thing! I think I’d be squeamish! But I’ll be peeking through my fingers that will be covering my eyes as I read your post! I love every opportunity to be silly! : )

First of all, I love both quotes and you talked about them very nicely in the post! Second, processing the deer… Are afraid to “look” how they do it? I’m okay about eating part, but I’m not sure if I can actually see it. I even close my eyes on TV shows that shows some blood. Yikes. I just have too much imagination and I have hard time to process it. I’m pretty sure this is super rare experience (unless you are a butcher). If you blog about it, I’ll slowly scroll down, so warn me where I should skip, okay? =) I’m curious enough to see and read… hehee.
