Wednesday Ramblings

This year…

It’s 2012.  How did that happen?  This time last year I was counting down the days to my wedding.  What a year 2011 was.  I have to say 2012 has big shoes to fill.

2012 does have a head start though.  At the end of the month Paul and I are taking a step that we’ve wanted to take for a long time.  We are moving to downtown Kansas City, to a loft just south of the Missouri River, a loft that looks south onto the city skyline, a skyline that’s in the middle of the mission field where we’ve been called to serve.  It’s exhilarating.  And nerve-wracking.  And something that we’ve been working toward, which also makes it rewarding!

Paul is employed by our church and his job took us to downtown KC in September 2010.  Downtown has not always been a destination in KC but it has been revived in the last few years with restaurants, businesses, condos, bars and event centers being built.  People are moving back into the city and now they are worshiping there too.  It’s been so exciting to see the transformation and it quickly became a priority for us to live in the heart of the city, with our friends, where we are serving.

So I’m already checking off a few of the things listed above…madness, good madness is first.  What could be wrong with good madness?

Did you make a new year resolution?  I have in the past, last year I resolved to wear sunscreen every day, all over my body and I did it.  I also saw a dermatologist for a full skin exam.  If you haven’t done this, please do it, especially if you’ve used tanning beds in your past!

This year I made intentions instead.  My goal was to be intentional in doing things to better my life and to make lasting habits.  I want to do these things on an ongoing basis, forever, rather than just check something off of a list.  So, here is my list of “intentions” for 2012 and beyond:

1. Improve my photography skills (definitely ongoing)

2. Pray more

3. Practice Yoga

4. Stick to our budget

5. Recycle

6. Eat more local, organic, fresh foods and less processed ones

7. Write more

8. Read more (Bible included!)

Help hold me accountable for these, ok?!

What great intentions! I didn’t make any resolutions this year (I normally don’t). I always think of them as lose weight, get active etc. Which is something I try to do normally. But I am loving everyone’s ideas for improving them self.

I’m happy for you and Paul 🙂 good luck with the move and what great work you guys are doing for the community there! Great list of intentions 🙂 I will definitely help hold you accountable for them 😉 we can do some of them together! Like…improve photography! When we cross paths, we should go around the city and take pics for practice!

Wow. Congrats on the move, my hubs and I are moving in 2012 also (to a whole new state. yikes!) All of your resolutions sound so inspiring. My resolution is to not be SO darn hard on myself when I am not actually perfect at something I try right away, give myself a break! Oh, and get better at photography is one of those things too 🙂 Let’s check in with each other in a few months to see how we are doing 🙂

I love the quote and the idea of intentions over resolutions. Good luck with the move! We are hoping for one in 2012 too, but haven’t planned it out exactly yet. I’m trying to be patient and let it all unfold 🙂 A view of the skyline sounds gorgeous!

Happy New Year Cassie! Very good resolution. I have one too – which is to live healthier life… Last year I sit in front of PC for too long, resulted in weight gain and lack of exersie. Hope this new habit will last longer, forever. Small step at a time. Enjoy new home. I used to love moving, until having 2 kids. Then we have way more things than we needed and I don’t want to move again! It sounds very exciting!
