Wednesday Ramblings

So, since we chatted last Wednesday, I have grown slightly obsesssed with Parenthood.  You familiar?  This show, you guys, has quickly moved to the top of my must-watch list.  I have totally and completely fallen in love with this family.  I have Paul hooked too.

You want to know the downfall?  We just cancelled our cable.  But!  Netflix to the rescue.  Tell me your Netflix favorites…I am filling up my queue!

I got a surprise last week: I had completely forgotten that I would receive a second device as part of the Savvy Gourmet program.  But it, the LG Intuition is here and this thing is crazy.

Yes, it’s bigger then my hand; wider and taller than my iPhone; also know as a “phablet” (phone + tablet.)  I have had a blast playing with it the last few days.  You wouldn’t believe how light it is for its size.  You can see that I have added my favorite apps.  See that little Netflix box?  Oh yeah, I have watched a few Parenthood episodes here too.

When I’m not glued to Netflix, I am glued to the fall scenery.  Look at this:

I love your Wednesday Ramblings, Cassie! I read it with my coffee and feel like I’m catching up with an old friend – we must meet one of these days! xx

congrats on cutting the cable cord! we are seriously contemplating the step. this morning, at 5:45 am, I discovered that basic cable no longer includes Golf Channel — that is almost enough by itself.

we really enjoy your recipes, photos, and mostly your commentary. Thanks for a personal touch and making something simple that appears very complicated (for example, the yeast thing!)

Thank you Mike! You and Margie are so wonderful!

I haven’t watched Parenthood yet but I’ve been meaning to get on that. I absolutely adore Lauren Graham. And canceling cable?! You’re so bold! I’m totally jealous of your phablet too!

I know! I have been trying to get Paul to do it for a long time and when we bought the pool table he agreed it was time. We haven’t really missed it!

also obsessed with Parenthood! I always catch up on Wednesday nights…which usually involves crying on my couch :)

We haven’t had cable for years and LOVE it that way!

    • Cassie replied: — October 24th, 2012 @ 2:22 pm

I already love it too! I can watch what I want to online but don’t have to worry about it otherwise! And crying on the couch – yes. It’s a tear-jerker!

Um, yes to Parenthood. My husband and I started watching the first 3 seasons on Netflix last month and are already all caught up with the current season.

    • Cassie replied: — October 24th, 2012 @ 2:24 pm

I started watching season 4 last Wednesday and then went back and started with the first episode. Almost caught up! :)

Parenthood…. nothing better. Reminds me a bit of Thirtysomething, but not much of a downer. LOVE the show and I practically hold my breath when I watch it because I love it so much. I cry during every episode.

      I do too!

I love that little tablet guy. If for the sole purpose of having digital recipes in the kitchen without having to lug the laptop in. Oh, and this is totally off topic, but I am reading the book that was written by the priest who started that gang rehab program I’m writing an article about, and I know that you will love it. For real, buy it right now: Tattoos On The Heart, Father Gregory Boyle

I just added it to my Amazon cart! Can’t wait to get started on it!

I cannot get enough fall leaves and scenery this year! Over the summer, my brother and I had a major Breaking Bad catch-up binge on Netflix. It might have distracted me from responsibility…too many times. It’s so easy to get sucked in!

    • Cassie replied: — October 25th, 2012 @ 1:56 pm

Yes! My husband loves Breaking Bad! I have watched a few of the episodes but we could totally catch up on the old ones!

Pretty pictures! Erik and I got rid of cable a few years ago and we went about four months without anything — no antenna, no Netflix — and it was glorious :) I’m thankful we have Netflix now, but it was a nice exercise to move away from the TV entirely for a few months. We actually started watching Parenthood last month and are on season two. Fantastic show! We just found out that it’s by the same people that did Friday Night Lights. We watched FNL earlier this year and it’s one of the best shows. Ever. I think it’s still on Netflix if you want to check it out :)

    • Cassie replied: — October 25th, 2012 @ 1:57 pm

Thanks Bobbie! We haven’t missed it but Netflix helps!

You know, I never really watch t.v so I have no idea what’s hot right now. I grew up in a house with 5 channels so another 200 doesn’t really excite me :) Now try and take my phone or computer away from me and I will chop your hands off (jk)

    • Cassie replied: — October 25th, 2012 @ 1:57 pm

My husband and I are both the same way, we are hooked to our computers and iPhones!

I’m such a tv junkie. Austin and I don’t have cable either, but between the basic channels that are broadcast digitally for free, netflix, and hulu….you can still pretty much see everything you’re interested in. ESPN seems to be what people miss the most.

You and Paul should DEFINITELY watch Breaking Bad. It is a little gruesome at points, but it is seriously the best show ever. I have a million other Netflix suggestions, too, but Breaking Bad is by far the best!

    • Cassie replied: — October 25th, 2012 @ 1:59 pm

That was exactly our thinking too! Paul loves Breaking Bad but I’ve only watched a few episodes but definitely need to catch up now!
