Summer Skincare
I’m so excited to talk about my summer skincare routine. I can’t believe I actually typed that! Most of us are excited to share with friends when we find something we are excited and passionate about.
I started using some Beautycounter products after Pearl was born. Post-partum hormones wreak havoc on my skin and I had never really had success in fading the dark spots on my face from when I was pregnant with Lucy. That coupled with a few spots I had removed between pregnancies, turning 32, and lack of sleep (hi dark eye circles), I was in need of some help!
Also having the desire to use safer products, I turned to Beautycounter. I started with using the loved charcoal bar and the Countermatch night cream. From there I added more and more products until, after tons of thought and discernment, I decided to join as a consultant. Fast forward to now, I don’t exclusively use Beautycounter but I mostly use Beautycounter. There are clean/safe/natural products on the market other than Beautycounter. Some of my favorites include Schmidt’s (deodorant – another post coming soon), Dr. Bronner’s, Primally Pure, Little Seed Farm.
So specifically to talk about my Summer skincare routine – my skin is pretty textbook combination skin. A little oily in my T-zone and across my chin, and somewhat dry elsewhere. The oily spots are magnified in the summer, I believe, due to the crazy humidity of the Midwest. So here is my current routine:
Morning:
- Dr. Bronner’s Castille Soap (I use this for shaving; Paul uses it for all-purpose cleaning)
- Citrus Mimosa Body Wash
- Nourishing Cream Cleanser
- Countermatch Intense Moisture Serum (so silky! helps to lock in moisture)
- Countermatch Eye Rescue Cream (this does wonders for dark circles; if you fight puffiness, the Rejuvenating Eye Cream is for you)
- Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion (unicorn moisturizer delivers so much moisture to skin)
Then I continue with make up, etc.
Night:
- Charcoal Cleansing Bar
- No. 3 Balancing Charcoal Mask (only 2-ish times per week)
- Overnight Resurfacing Peel (magical, must-have for everyone! separate post to come soon – I use this 4 times per week or so)
- Countermatch Eye Rescue Cream
- One-Step Makeup Remover Wipes
On nights that I do not use the peel, I follow the Charcoal Bar with the Countermatch serum. If my face is feeling particularly dry to in need of a little extra moisture and/or brightness, I might also follow up the sleeping cream with the No. 1 Brightening Oil. I only use this on nights that I do not use the peel, and only when I feel like I need it during the summer. During winter months, I use this nearly daily.
Nights that I am feeling particularly lazy (and when camping!), I turn to the One-Step Makeup Remover Wipes. I have used makeup remover wipes for a long time and these are the dreamiest! No stinging, they smell so good and they are compostable!
Other favorite summer products:
- Lip Conditioner in Calendula
- Cleansing Balm – perfect after-sun treatment, spot acne treatment, cuticle oil, and so many other things!
- Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Mist & Sunscreen Face Stick
- Adaptive Body Moisturizer – the best lotion! We have experienced a drastic improvement in eczema and dry skin patches since using this, even on the girls. I love this lotion. It’s not greasy, soaks in very quickly and provides all-day moisture. It has a slight plum smell (from plum oil) and is just top-notch.
