St. George Island
We took our first vacation as a family of three a few
weeks months ago to St. George Island, Florida. I haven’t actually written a post in MONTHS and then I finally draft one, only to not actually publish but until MONTHS later. Such is life these days!
But! I wanted to say, regarding our vacation: It was blissful! We drove – 14+ hours each way. The drive had its challenges but all-in-all it went extremely well, considering we were traveling with a nine-month old. She was mostly a rock star in the car. We watched movies, read books, ate snacks, and napped.
We arrived on the island on a Sunday and unloaded a weeks-worth of stuff into our home for the week. As much as I tried to pack light, it’s just not so easy with a baby. I did the best I could but our van was loaded down and there were only three of us!
St. George is a barrier island off of the panhandle, across the bay from Apalachicola. It’s super quaint and while there were a lot of people vacationing there, it was not at all over-crowded. The only chain-anything on the island is a Subway.
We spent the week lounging in the sand, cooling off in the ocean, reading books in the sun, biking to shops, eating our WEIGHT in fresh shrimp (oh my goodness, the shrimp!) and other amazing seafood. We also took a sunset cruise to Little St. George Island. One day we walked around Apalachicola and explored and had an amazing lunch on the bay.
Paul’s family has been vacationing on St. George Island for years and now I know why. I was so excited to introduce Lucy to the ocean and cannot wait to take her back!
Date night on our last night on the island.
The kids found a shark on the beach!
