Our New Home
Last Tuesday, we closed on our new house. Thursday we moved into our new house. Friday and Saturday we painted and worked our butts off and I have slept for the past two days to recover. Just kidding. Only kind-of. Paul’s mom and dad and my mom and dad were here over the weekend and let me just say that parents truly rock. There is no way that we could have gotten anywhere without them here!
What a ride this has been. And SO many of you have asked to see the new house. So, ask and you shall receive. Now first, a couple of things: we have NOTHING on the walls yet so look past that. Also, all of these are iPhone photos because it’s easier than my real camera. And there are a couple of rooms that are still stacked high with paint cans, drop cloths and boxes so you won’t be seeing those.
We painted a lot of walls yellow. If you know me at all, you are not surprised by this. We also have a few grey walls and a brown dining room – and I’m so in love with it. We still have a lot of little projects like light fixtures, window treatments (those are stuck in the 80’s for now) and so on. We are just so excited to be here and I’m excited to share with you. So here you are!
Emma was not so impressed by all of the boxes and chaos. She just chilled in this box for hours. In case you were wondering – most of the house started out in that sea-green color that is on the walls in this picture.
The kitchen. The far door goes into the dining room; the door on the left and window above the sink look into the family room which is currently serving as my “office” and will eventually have some comfy furniture in it. To the right, there is a door that goes to the basement and into the hallway to another bedroom and bathroom. There is also a door that goes upstairs to the bedroom and bathroom up there.
The “office” that I mentioned above. I really love this space. Sliding doors go out onto the back deck and I love the built-in shelves. This room and the master are part of an add-on which is why you can see brick here – it used to be the outside of the house. These walls are grey, even though you really can’t see it well here.
On the other side of the kitchen is a sunroom – windows all around, white walls, sliding doors that go out to the deck too. For now, it’s my photography studio!
The dining room. The paint color: caramelized onion. Because what other color would I choose? Actually, Paul chose this one and I couldn’t be happier with it. That light fixture will eventually be replaced too.
The living room. I love these walls…actually, this whole room! The TV will eventually be mounted on the wall above the fireplace. We totally fell in love with the hardwood floors in this house. I love them more and more every day!
And the master. More yellow walls. I couldn’t get a good shot of the master bathroom but the walls are grey and the brown carries in there. The grey replaces PINK walls (and trim and wood work and vent covers). It was like a bottle of Pepto spilled in that bathroom and no one ever cleaned it up. I like pink as much as the next girl but this was insane people. The grey is much more my style.
Our new back deck.
From which we receive these stellar sunsets!
And there is most of the house. I have some DIY projects on my list which I may end up sharing here if they are worthy!
