Homemade Cheddar Crackers

This post is written by me on behalf of Imperial Sugar.

Homemade Cheddar Crackers

We experienced a milestone this week, and if you follow me on Instagram, you might already know…we bought a new car!  Over the last month I have worked up the courage to trade in my beloved Honda Civic.  We ended up driving home in a pretty Ford Escape and I can’t even describe how much I love it.  But I have to admit it was hard to drive away from the lot with my Civic sitting there so seemingly lonely…as if cars have feelings!

Why the heck was it so hard to part with a car?  Isn’t it so funny how we get attached to certain things?  The Civic was not my first car, it was my second car, but it was the first one that I picked out and bought all by myself just before I graduated from college.  I put a lot of miles on that baby: to and from Oklahoma City when my first nephew was born; to and from Kansas City looking for my first post-college job and my first post-college apartment; all over Kansas City for work and play.  It’s been the default car on road trips to the lake, back to my hometown and all over the place.  It was such a great car!

Cleaning 6-years-worth of accumulated stuff out of it was an interesting experience.  I found 4 tubes of chapstick (addicted, much?), about 18 reusable grocery bags (thank you, blog conferences), a watch with a dead battery, some old business cards and believe it or not – a cookbook.  Should that be added to one of those lists, “you know you are a blogger when…?”

Homemade Cheddar Crackers

If you were thinking the cookbook in the old car had something to do with these Homemade Cheddar Crackers, it didn’t but it does have some amazing Asian-inspired recipes in it and hopefully I can share a couple of those soon.  But let’s talk about these cheddar crackers, shall we?

I mean, who doesn’t love cheesy, buttery crackers?  I don’t know about you but I can fairly easily finish off a box of Cheez-Its with little help and since today is the first day of school here, I thought it would be fun to share a quick, simple and natural way to enjoy a kid-favorite snack cracker recipe I did for Imperial Sugar.  These cheddar crackers have all of the sharp cheesy flavor of the store-bought variety, except without all of the store-bought preservatives.  The recipe has only a few ingredients but I promise the end-result is just as addicting as the crackers in the red box!

I missed the instagram photo – congrats on the new car!!! Funny, my last car was a Honda Civic as well which I traded in for Ford Edge. LOVE Ford! (Yes I’m biased.) Also love these crackers – my husband is addicted to Cheese-Itz so I know these would be a hit!

I thought about you when we were test driving because I knew you and your family loves the Edge!

Cheesey crackers are hands down THE most addicting substance on the planet. Even more-so than brownies, and that’s saying a lot for me! OOOH they look so puffy and perfect and crunchy! UGH! Congrats on the new car, lady! LOVE that new car smell!

I feel like the last person to try making their own crackers. These look so incredibly good though. Maybe part of my fear is that I’m going to eat them all.

    • Cassie replied: — August 15th, 2013 @ 7:56 am

Yeah, I totally could have eaten the whole batch if I tried!

Honda Civic was my second car (but first car purchased by me) too! Love that old thing and my heart’s gonna break when I have to tell it good bye. Cracked up when I read about the cookbook you found in yours. I love those funny “I’m a food blogger” moments.

Empathy! I drove a Civic for 10 years — after my mom had had it for 6. I loved that car, and it was so reliable. Now I drive a RAV4, which is also great and has a lot more room for the dogs. My cousin’s 17-year-old son has the Civic though, so it’s still in the family and going strong. (P.S. Will be making those crackers soon!)

I cried when I traded in a car many years ago. Full out bawled as I handed over the keys. It was bad.

The crackers look amazing! I love how light and airy they look.

I made crackers sort of like these and put them in my cookbook but I didn’t have a cute crimped edge pastry cutter and the edges aren’t as adorable as yours. So good, Cassie!

And congrats on your new ride! Exciting!

Congrats on the new car! I can’t believe you found a cookbook in the Civic… you definitely are a food blogger haha 🙂 These DIY Cheez-Its look incredible. I get into serious trouble when I buy a box at the store… maybe I need to tell myself I can only eat them if they’re homemade.

Hah! I LOL’d when you said “as if cars have feelings” For some reason I always worry about what things are going to feel. I blame Toy Story 🙂 I was sad when I sold my last car because, it too, was the first car I bought and paid for by myself. But I sold it to my neighbor and I could still see it 🙂 These look lovely, I can eat an entire box of cheez-itz no problem but hate all the preservatives, I love that I can make them at home. Who knew?

Congratulations on your new car, Cassie!! I’ve been driving the same car for 8 years and I can’t imagine parting with it – I’m so oddly attached to the thing 🙂 These homemade cheddar crackers look great! I’ve never been a huge fan of the store-bought ones, but the homemade version is a serious weakness.

I too had a little Honda Civic before we moved here (sold it 3 years ago…boo), and giving it up was definitely harder than I thought it would be – I loved that little car. However, I drove a Ford Escape around for a week as a rental when I was back in the US in June and fell in love – you’ll have lots of fun road trips in that car Cassie! I’ve got to try making crackers – these photos are absolutely spectacular – I feel like I can take a bite out of one straight off the screen. 😉

Isn’t it funny how we get attached to inanimate objects? LOL! Congrats on the new wheels, girl! But, oh…this recipe! Yours looks like THE BEST! The Big Lug and I just adore Cheez-Its and I can’t believe I’ve never made homemade cheese crackers before. Cheese Straws, yes. Crackers, yes. I’ve even made grain-free crackers. This needs to change…just in time for football season! Thanks ever so much for sharing, Cassie! Pinning!
