happy new year.

happy new year

It’s 2014!  2013 was a pretty great year so I have high hopes for this year as well.  I’m not talking monumental things.  I’m easy to please: I’d like some snow this winter; I want to drink hot coffee by a blazing fire; I want to eat really good food; I want to continue to build relationships with new friends here; I want to continue to decorate our home; I want to really live well this year.

After I started working in May, I totally let my “Wednesday Ramblings” posts fall to the wayside and I can’t even tell you how much I miss writing those.  I fell way behind on sharing monthly photo posts and I miss it.  And then I remembered my annualIntentions” post and it got me thinking about what I really want to be intentional about this year.

(The photos in these collages are just random outtakes from my life over the past three months that I haven’t had a chance to share otherwise.  October, November and December just totally rocked, by the way.)

This blog.  Oh boy, where do I start?  I started Bake Your Day out of love of food and a desire to be creative and in 2014 I intend to bring it back to those things: food and creativity.  But I hope to do so in a way that feeds my soul (and maybe yours?).  The last year has allowed me to really understand what I hope to achieve through this little space in the infinite space that is the internet and really what it comes down to is that I just want to blog because I love to do it – about food and about life.

I also want to live my life apart from the blog so finding balance between blogging and life is a goal.  I’ve done pretty well with that recently but it’s a work in progress.  I want to share more of life so I hope to get back to some sort of regularity in lifestyle-type posts.  And food, of course, the food.  I feel like I am finally getting back to a place of creativity so now it’s just creating some time to spend in the kitchen to get back to sharing some really good stuff!

Personally.   I have a lot of intentions here.  Like most people, I am my own worst critic so my first intention is to love myself more.  I am strong, I am smart, I am beautiful.  Do you ever say those things to yourself?  You should!  It feels totally weird and narcissistic but DO IT.  It’s completely empowering and it is a breath of fresh air to say good things to myself.  I want to love myself more by allowing time to do things that feed my soul like photography, writing, cooking for fun, and exercise.

I’m ran my second half marathon this year and as much of an accomplishment as that is, I have such a love-hate relationship with running.  So my next personal intention is just to fall back in love with exercise – any kind.  That might mean walking, yoga, weight lifting, cycling…anything, just to get moving.  And I don’t want to exercise for weight loss or calorie burn, but rather to make healthy choices for me: because it makes me feel better and it makes me happier.

An ongoing, daily intention for me is prayer and creating a stronger relationship with God.  It’s easy to let this one slip to the back burner and I’m guilty of allowing that to happen but each new minute brings grace and opportunity. I pray daily to be the best wife, friend, daughter, neighbor I can be.  I am FAR from it.  But I keep trying.  Do you do any daily devotionals?  I would love to hear your favorites because I am ready for something new!

What are your intentions this year?  I am so blessed by you being here and wish you nothing but a hugely successful and happy 2014!

PS: Sorry for leaving an obnoxious comment on your extremely thoughtful and reflective post. 😉

On a more serious note — I need to spend more time with my Bible/in prayer too. Let’s keep each other accountable. 🙂
