Glenwood Springs – Summer 2017

This summer we took a life-giving family trip to Glenwood Springs, Colorado.  I say life-giving because the whole week that we were there I wore the same hat, very little (or no) makeup and took in some of the most breathtaking scenes.  I was 16-17 weeks pregnant so I had plenty of energy and it felt great to be so active.

Paul had started the trip with a week backpacking the Maroon Bells (where the first picture was taken) with a group of friends.  Lucy and I then started the journey across Missouri and Kansas, meeting up with him somewhere in the middle of the Sunshine state, then we made the rest of the drive.

We spent the first few days of the trip camping near Rifle, Colorado with Paul’s mom and dad.

Lucy is a vacation pro – she loved camping!

Glenwood Springs is known for its hot springs pools which we had to visit.  The weather was much warmer than I had anticipated but the pool experience was awesome.  Lucy loved the warm water.

Hiking at Rifle Falls State Park – Lucy loves her backpack!

And also ice cream, which is 100% a vacation requirement if you ask me.

The rest of the vacation we spent in a vacation rental home in Glenwood Springs and did more hiking, eating and relaxing.  One day we hiked to Hanging Lake (above).  It rained on us most of the hike but it was 100% worth it – these pictures don’t do it justice.  I was super nervous about the hike – it’s about a mile hike, but you gain 1,000 feet in elevation.  I’m not sure why I was so nervous because it ended up being a great hike.

Lucy was thrilled at this point, but wouldn’t keep her hood on her head.

Dipping her feet in the Colorado River as we biked the Glenwood Canyon.  She loved the “bike stroller” that we rented, so much so that we bought one for home.  I can’t wait for the spring to go on some bike rides with her and the babe.

On our last day in Colorado Paul took us to the Maroon Bells.  He has done several backpacking trips to this area (near Aspen) since we moved to Jefferson City and it was so awesome to experience a part of it together!
