I’m so excited to talk about my summer skincare routine.  I can’t believe I actually typed that!  Most of us are excited to share with friends when we find something we are excited and passionate about.

I started using some Beautycounter products after Pearl was born.  Post-partum hormones wreak havoc on my skin and  I had never really had success in fading the dark spots on my face from when I was pregnant with Lucy.  That coupled with a few spots I had removed between pregnancies, turning 32, and lack of sleep (hi dark eye circles), I was in need of some help!

Also having the desire to use safer products, I turned to Beautycounter.  I started with using the loved charcoal bar and the Countermatch night cream.  From there I added more and more products until, after tons of thought and discernment, I decided to join as a consultant.  Fast forward to now, I don’t exclusively use Beautycounter but I mostly use Beautycounter.  There are clean/safe/natural products on the market other than Beautycounter.  Some of my favorites include Schmidt’s (deodorant – another post coming soon), Dr. Bronner’s, Primally Pure, Little Seed Farm.

So specifically to talk about my Summer skincare routine – my skin is pretty textbook combination skin.  A little oily in my T-zone and across my chin, and somewhat dry elsewhere.  The oily spots are magnified in the summer, I believe, due to the crazy humidity of the Midwest.  So here is my current routine:

I realize a post like this sounds so extremely basic but I’m working on getting back into blogging.  For me right now that means I’m sharing what is going on in my life and right now, along with camping, I am enjoying allllll of the rosé!

Chateau St. Michelle Rose

Until about two years ago I had never ventured into rosé because I am not a huge fan of white wine.  I would typically choose a red any day.  On a whim though, last spring, I grabbed a bottle at the store and I was shocked at how much I enjoyed it.  I think I had an idea in my head that all rosé was sweet and fruity and that is so not the case.  All of the ones listed above are crisp and smooth and go with about any summer meal you can dream of.

Pearl Noreen Laemmli arrived on January 4th – her due date – without any complications.  Now a few months later, it feels like it was nearly a lifetime ago and yesterday all at the same time.

I had gone to the doctor the morning of the 4th for my normal weekly appointment and, just like with Lucy, my blood pressure had spiked.  My doctor highly encouraged me to be induced which I was pretty against the whole pregnancy.  But, at 40 weeks, I was so anxious to get this baby out so we went with it.

This summer we took a life-giving family trip to Glenwood Springs, Colorado.  I say life-giving because the whole week that we were there I wore the same hat, very little (or no) makeup and took in some of the most breathtaking scenes.  I was 16-17 weeks pregnant so I had plenty of energy and it felt great to be so active.

Paul had started the trip with a week backpacking the Maroon Bells (where the first picture was taken) with a group of friends.  Lucy and I then started the journey across Missouri and Kansas, meeting up with him somewhere in the middle of the Sunshine state, then we made the rest of the drive.

Spring in Missouri seemed to start earlier this year than in years past.  It was 70 degrees some days in January and February and it was BLISSFUL!  We took tons of long walks – we bought a hiking toddler backpack and so far it’s been a hit.  Paul loves carrying it, and Lucy loves sitting up to see the sights.  That is, until she falls asleep.

We had some visitors for a few days when our nephews were on spring break.  We played until we couldn’t play anymore.  Lucy never stops moving these days.

We took our first ever trip to the St. Louis Zoo.  Lucy was semi-impressed.  She liked the elephants and the monkeys (or maybe that was me).  I think that if we took her back today she would be so much more impressed – she is so into animals.  She even says “flamingo” when we pull our her flamingo jammies.

One of her favorite books is “Moo Baa La La La”.  She insists on sleeping with it and knows almost the whole book, word for word.  “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” is another favorite.  Animals!

Newborn Lucille

Bringing an actual person into the world, who is 100% dependent on adult humans, is one of the scariest and most rewarding things I will ever experience.  After 40+ weeks of preparing for her arrival, I was surprised at how unreal this feeling was.  This tiny human was counting on me to not screw it up.  There is so much pressure just in that sentence.  And of course, I have screwed up plenty thus far.  But looking back at the last 15 months, I think I have done some good things too.  I, along with tons of help from Paul, our parents, our friends and other family, have managed to keep her fed, mostly healthy, clean and pretty darn happy, or so it seems.

She is thriving, actually.  She is in the 80th percentile for weight – girlfriend loves food.  Obviously she would love food.  Of course, because she is my daughter, I think she is extremely advanced.  She is probably right on par educationally, but hey, I think she walks on water.

Lucille turned ONE!  What a year it was.  People say it every.single.day but you can’t really understand how fast it truly goes by until you wake up one day with a brand new baby, and the next day that baby is a sweet little toddler, walking all over the place, saying new words everyday.

Her birthday was on a Sunday so we had family here all weekend and celebrated with a bright, sprinkle-y cake that she LOVED.  She hadn’t had a ton of sugar up to that point but she devoured it, and then later when seeing the cake on the counter, she insisted on more.  And she only turns one once so of course, she got some more!
